Puppy heart murmurs

It’s not unusual for growing puppies to have low-grade (1 or 2 on a scale of 6) murmurs. Most puppy murmurs are innocent and not indicative of disease and simply resolve on their own as your puppy fully develops. Murmurs typically disappear on their own by 6 months of age.
If your breeder had a vet checks for your puppy prior to going home, you should still have your vet re-check when you take your puppy for her first exam.
In an unusual case, a puppy will have a murmur past 6 months of age. At this point you should have him examined by a veterinary cardiologist and have an echocardiogram. An echocardiogram is a simple, non-invasive in-office procedures and requires no overnight stay.
